The Audacity software is freeware available on Windows, Linux and Macintosh. It has multiple uses, but the main useful feature is fast editing. As it may not be the most complex software for editing, it is compact and has certain musical effects that are useful as well. Noise cancelling or amplification are not the best, but simple fade in or out effects work. Recording works as well, the thing missing are tracks. It is hard to record things so that they overlay properly. You cannot move tracks from one another, and they basically all start at the same time. This is the main reason for Audacity being good just for editing and less good for arranging, which is in fact not an option. Audacity should be used just for editing and recording, without anything else. It is at freeware standards one of the most functional audio editor, and therefore it cannot be compared to the paid programs.
